Kalleske Wins Back-to-Back BEST SHIRAZ at Edinburgh Great Shiraz Challenge.

For the second year in row Kalleske has taken out top honours at the 2019 Edinburgh Great Shiraz Challenge!

Last year our Eduard Shiraz took out the award but this year our Moppa Shiraz was awarded the Overall Shiraz Day Winner. Competing against 250 other wines from around Australia the 2017 Moppa Shiraz received first place in the under $30 Retail category for the first time as well receiving the most overall votes across both over and under $30 categories at the event. The 2016 Eduard Shiraz also placed second in the over $30 category on the day so Kalleske was definitely a favourite with voters!

In its 26th year the Great Edinburgh Shiraz Challenge is held at the Edinburgh Hotel and Cellars annually. The Challenge gives wine producers the ability showcase their wines directly to Shiraz lovers! Consumers can taste their way around 250 Shiraz wines over the day and vote on their favourite wine. There were many variations of Shiraz for tasting from many regions including Eden Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek, Clare Valley, Victoria, WA and the ACT and of course a strong the representation from the Barossa Valley.

Troy and Tony Kalleske, were both thrilled with the back to back win
“To win the best overall Shiraz at the Edinburgh Great Shiraz Challenge for the second year in a row is a fantastic achievement and especially satisfying because it was for our Moppa shiraz, a totally different shiraz to our winning wine last year. The wines entered from fellow producers were again of an excellent standard and this is shows by looking at the top 10 wines in each category. We have said it previously but the ‘Ed Challenge’ is a very special event to win because it is the consumers that are tasting the wines and voting on the winner. We will be celebrating with a bottle of Moppa!”

The win at the Edinburgh Great Shiraz Challenge has topped off a fantastic year for the 2017 Moppa Shiraz after winning a Master Medal at the Global Syrah Masters in the UK in November 2018 and a review score of 95 Points from Master of Wine, Toni Paterson of the Real Review stating is It is a luscious red wine with immense softness, intensity and brightness which will delight lovers of full-bodied, full-fruited shiraz. Great value too!”
