2016 Buckboard Durif wins 2017 Alternative Red Wine of the Year

We were so excited to recently receive the 2017 Best Alternative Red Wine for our Kalleske 2016 Buckboard Durif. Winemaker, Troy Kalleske and the team received the award at the Winestate Magazine Awards.

The 2017 Winestate Magazine Wine of the Year Awards combine the results from all the judging throughout 2017. Over 400 wines that received a 4 1/2 star rating or better are re-judged by an expert panel that included former Senior Penfolds’ Winemaker, Adam Clay, Classic Oak’s David Mathews and acting chair, Peter Simic.

The Buckboard Durif is sourced from a single vineyard on the Kalleske property. The hand-pruned vines are low yielding and are grown in shallow, sandy loam over a superb, deep red clay that provides ideas condtions for Durif. 2016 was certainly a star vintage with bright intense wines of great flavour intensity and inherent balance.
